The sight of a colourful larch forest delights visitors to the Alpine region, especially in spring and autumn. The larch is the second most common tree in South Tyrol and the only native conifer whose needles turn red and fall after the summer months and autumn. Larch trees need a lot of sunlight to grow, but can then grow to 40 metres and live to 800 years.
